Introduction

From the invention of the printing press, until the advent of radio and television, works of fiction were often distributed to audiences in parts, through serial installments, by way of weekly or monthly periodicals.

Coming a full circle, the Internet also lends itself to the piecemeal publication of larger works.

With the means of electronic distribution having almost no cost, the reader can consume the author’s prose, almost as fast as the writer can produce the words.

Charleston & Hamburg is a serial collection of Shorts – each having a title and consisting of a scene or two, conveyed in 1,000 words or less, and not quite making a chapter or short story, even if there is some discrete plot, or theme, or conclusion, but always ending with enough suspense to keep the reader intrigued as to what might happen next…

The first installment of this series was posted on the Get In Line Rose website on the first Saturday of 2016, with sequels coming each weekend thereafter. The author will endeavor to keep a similar schedule going forward, until the story is complete, or there is no more to tell, or other distractions derail the effort.

As always the author relishes your positive feedback, and realizes the other kind makes for better writing and reading.

The story begins with Priscilla’s Promise.
